Rainbows End - Vernor Vinge The main character was annoying in the beginning, and there were times the main storyline seemed to lose sight of the original problem. But overall the future was very realistic, including the cultural changes. And that's what kept me riveted even when a couple scenes seemed slow. The ending was surprisingly poignant.
